Katie Sarra performs

Intimacy in the community

Katie has been creating performances for over 20 years. Through energetic exchanges captured on oils and canvas she explores themes of exhibitionism and voyeurism integrating public and private identities. Katie invites audience participation to bring her art alive and explore projections of body image, gender differences, and emotional states. She reveals peoples sexuality to themselves to create an experience of self acceptance, allowing people to be witnessed with compassion.

Katie sees and expresses the beauty and sexuality creating surprisingly intimate and healing public experiences. In performances such as at Erotica, London Olympia (2008), Surreal Saloon, ‘Mothers and Men  Uncovered’. (Phoenix Art Centre. Exeter 2008), Llandudno Skin Deep Tattoo Jam (2008),  The Outsiders charity events, the Erotic Awards and Night of the Senses where she won Erotic artist of the year 2008, Doncaster Tattoo Jam (2009) and ‘Kiss’ (Amora, London academy for sex and relationships, London 2009). Glastonbury Festival in the disability field “Outsiders Pleasure Islands” (2008, 2009, 20010, 20011).

Katie invited models to relax in a boudoir, open on two sides and she begins an intimate exploration. As she paints an audience gathers to witness the model as spectacle. The model is within a safe energetic bubble with Katie, in dialogue, reassuring and allowing the model to be publicly witnessed in love and beauty.

Donaster Skin Deep Tattoo Jam

“you painting me today was profoundly more effecting to me……

The whole process was incredibly uplifting for me, in fact it made me feel a lot better about ‘being me’ – I have never been particularly fond of my body (hence the tattoos I guess), yet today made me feel that bit better about myself, so a massive thank you for that – to be honest I am as happy with that outcome as I was with the painting, which I absolutely adore.”

When are you doing public performance painting next where I can see you at work?

Next Outsider Charity event is Glastonbury Festival 2013.

Upcoming other events are at Sacred Pleasures, London. Cabaret September 2011. Shh sex boutique, London. February 2012.

Tarte Noire

Katie is also a member of Tarte Noire, Women’s playback theatre company (playback theatre south west) which draws women together into sharing their stories and reflections of the reality and mystery of their lives, relieving isolation and facilitating intimacy in the community.

Tarte Noire create performances that are

dedicated to exploring and affirming the

everyday stories and experiences that affect

women’s lives.

During a performance women are drawn together as they witness the enactments. Through this spontaneous improvised theatre form we seek to create art and beauty as a way of acknowledging the fullness of our human experience. We invite conversations between women where we can explore together and see reflected the reality and mystery of our lives. A space is created for women to enjoy listening deeply to each other. We have become aware that this work removes feelings of isolation and creates intimacy between people. Every voice is welcome.

Tarte Noire is seeking women’s empowerment

and nurturing collective strength. We invite all

women to participate in this new way of being

together.
